Ridley Scott's Gladiator (2000) needs no praise. It's a Best Picture winner and is a cinema classic. Every department is on song and top form in that movie. Production design, acting, score, costumes and CGI all contribute to making a tremendous film. On my most recent re-watch 2 things really stood out: the dialogues and Joaquin Phoenix's British accent. The script delivers highly quotable, powerful and thought-provoking lines, monologues and dialogues after every 5 minutes. I won't say they are exactly Shakespearean calibre, but for a blockbuster movie the lines are brilliant. Think about how famous the lines like "Are you not entertained?" or "I am Maximus Decimus ... ."Joaquin Phoenix's Commodus is one of my favorite villains. Normally, I don't think much of Americans doing British accents but I thought Phoenix is one of the rare cases where he did well. I am not an expert at British accents but I never felt he was ever off. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3A1mwyZ
